Mandi Disaster Relief
When the 2025 monsoon hit Mandi, HITA connected a national relief agency with local organisations. 200 families received relief kits and 1,236 families across 27 Gram Panchayats received cash assistance.
Context
Himachal Pradesh had an exceptionally severe monsoon in 2025. The State Disaster Management Authority recorded 64 deaths in rain-related incidents between 20 June and 16 July. Mandi district was among the worst affected, with flash floods and landslides through July and August caused by heavy rain and cloudbursts.
HITA’s role
HITA does not run relief operations. What it can do is connect the right actors quickly. We reached out to ADRA, a disaster-relief agency based in Gurgaon, and connected it with RTDC (Palampur) and other local agencies for urgent support in Mandi.
Outcome
With ADRA’s support delivered through the local network:
- 200 of the worst-affected families received shelter kits, hygiene kits, hand tools and blankets for their immediate needs.
- 1,236 families across 27 Gram Panchayats received unconditional cash assistance of ₹3,000 each, a total of ₹37,08,000.
RTDC wrote to HITA afterwards to acknowledge the connection: “Your commitment to helping vulnerable mountain communities has made a meaningful difference in the lives of thousands of affected individuals and families.”
